MUSITION Benefits and Insights

Why use MUSITION?

Key differentiators & advantages of MUSITION

  • Time Saver: Instructors can save valuable time by automating recording and tracking data, grades, notes and more. This includes the ability to create, map and customize a syllabus or curriculum and build tests and assessments.
  • Music Literate Students: It helps students gain a greater understanding of the language of rhythm, melody and harmony. With subjects covering classical, contemporary or jazz style, it reinforces the theory to create better musicians.
  • Greater Accessibility: The cloud-based solution increases the accessibility of the learning material. Students can work in the areas that work best for them at home or on-campus. It operates on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Chromebook and iPad.
  • More Complex/Accurate Grading: The platform’s ability to include a variety of questions and functionality for answering musical-based inquiries allows for learners to show their knowledge of the subject more accurately.

Industry Expertise

Musition was created by the Music Sales Group in Australia. The Music Sales Group rebranded as WiseMusic Creative in early 2020. It holds the rights to a wide catalog including the U.S. rights to “The Twist,” as made popular by Chubby Checker. “The Twist,” holds the top spot in Billboard’s Hot 100 Songs and Artists, the U.S. radio chart.

Key Features

  • Musical Concepts: It teaches basic musical concepts including chord structure, scales, rhythm, meter, harmony, transposition, musical symbols, music reading and more.
  • Solfege: The solution teaches solfege where every note on a scale has a representative syllable—i.e. do, re, mi, fa, so, la and ti. Students will learn to identify solfege hand signs and can use an on-screen solfege controller.
  • Note Reading: Allows students to identify notes on a staff and derive complex conclusions about them. This includes identifying enharmonic variations, scale degrees, incorrect notes, key signatures, scales and other musical symbols and terminology.
  • Customization: It allows teachers to customize syllabi and different levels. Add levels to split up users into skill, age or other distinctions. It can also add customized syllabi to future classes.
  • AP Music Theory: Besides including a syllabus specifically geared toward the new updated course and exam description for the AP test. It provides hundreds of questions for the exam and automatic assessment for AP questions.
  • Content Library: The solution provides a library with notations, audio clips and other assets. Instructors can import their materials to use in question creation.
  • Questions: Users can create questions to include multiple-choice, tapping along to answers, chord symbols, notation entry or highlighting, free text answer or composition/transposition functionalities. They can answer via piano, guitar or solfege.
  • Rhythm: It allows students to correct rhythms on-screen. Rhythms can be in multiple time signatures, can range in length from one to eight bars, include rests and notes and more.
  • Notation: The platform has a notation editor which allows for control over beaming and grouping, unlimited bars and parts, anacrusis support and the ability to export MusicXML so instructors can reuse existing notation.
  • Courses: It groups lessons and questions in a set path. Teachers can adjust the settings so students must hit certain marks before continuing to the next stage.
  • Lessons: Users can access a lesson module for each topic where they can access audio, text and notation to reinforce their learning.
  • Reporting: It allows teachers to monitor student progress with scores on practices, classes and tests.
  • Network: While most users operate online, it can work on a local network. If that’s the case, users need to use a connected computer to access the solution.
  • Integrations: It can integrate with LMSs such as Blackboard, Canvas, D2L, Moodle, MusicFirst Classroom and Schoology. Learners and instructors can use a Single Sign-On to enter the platform through an LMS.
